Preparation of Wood Within few weeks of exposure to sunlight, all woods will begin to change colors. Generally the natural color turns yellow or brownish, then gray. Woods in dark colors become lighter and light-colored woods become darker. Surface become dry and cracks may develop, the particles may raise and loosen its internal bonds. The wood surface becomes easily separated to tiny particles and fragments. Usually within 1 to 2 years, further changes may develop.
Exterior plywood will develop surface checks and cracks with moisture and sunlight. Quality Lionlac and Tokyolac stain blocking filler and a final coat of Lionlac and Tokyolac Emulsion Paint performs best to help avoid these problems.
